Di opened her eyes, gently slipped out of Raph's arms, and turned to look down at him. She grinned and thought, Heh, I guess it's my turn to watch you sleep. Now that she had a chance to really look at one of the guys, she was amazed that she was actually there, with them. She smiled gently, and softly stoked Raph's cheek.
She looked up as she heard a soft chuckle. Splinter was standing there. "Ah, now I see it is your turn to be watching another sleep," Splinter chuckled again, voicing her previous thought.
She smiled at him, "Hello, Splinter. Yes, I suppose it is. I'm sorry for waking you and everyone else up before," she winced in embarrassment, "I didn't mean to."
Splinter came over and patted her on the shoulder. "Do not worry about it, Di. Anyway, it was not your fault."
She rose an eyebrow, "It's not? But I had those nightmares, I was the one who was crying and I was the one who screamed when I felt that pain, whatever THAT was," she looked at him questioningly, and cracked a grin. "Inquiring mind do want to know about that."
Splinter chuckled and responded, "All will be explained when the others awaken."
Just then, Raph yawned and stretched. Midstreach, he sat up, wrapped an arm around Di's waist and pulled her down next to him.
She chuckled and gave him a hug, which he returned. She said, "Thanks for putting up with me last night, I doubt I would have been able to get back to sleep without you."
Raph smiled and gave her a squeeze, "Hey, don't worry about it."
Then he saw Splinter, he smiled at him, "Mornin', Master."
Splinter smiled at Raph, "Good morning, my son."
Leo stepped into the room and chuckled, "Looks like I'll have to start getting up earlier if I want to be the first up. Good morning, all."
Mikey bounced into the room and upon seeing Raph and Di, he started singing, "Raph and Di sittin' in a tree..." He was cut off by a pillow in the face, thrown by Raph. The others all chuckled at the face Mikey made. Mike threw the pillow back at Raph, but Di caught it before it hit him, averting a pillow fight. She put it on the couch.
Leo and Splinter applauded, and Leo commented, "Excellent job on averting an early morning pillow fight."
Di chuckled, "Thank you, thank you. My sister and I used to get into them al the time..." She trailed off, and Raph gave her shoulders a squeeze.
Leo came over and squatted down in front of her, looking into her eyes. He said, "Don't worry, you will see her again."
Di smiled, "Thanks, Leo."
Then Donnie shuffled into the room, looking very sleepy. Now that they were all there, Splinter took them to train. After the spar, and everyone was showered, they all sat down to breakfast.
As they were eating, Splinter brought up what had happened the night before.
Di blushed, "I'm really sorry about that. I had a bad dream and overreacted."
Splinter looked her strait in the eyes, he held her eyes on his. "Dreams tell us things that we may not know we know, and sometimes they can be influenced by other," he said soberly.
A chill went down Di's spine as she remembered her dreams and combined it with what Splinter had just said. She's learned, from all the media that she had taken in about the turtles before, that Splinter was seldom wrong about these things.
Splinter saw the fear creep into her eyes. He patted her hand and suggested, "Why don't you tell us about your dreams?"
She shuddered, but was reassured by Raph's gentle squeeze on the shoulder.
"To start with, I guess I need to tell you guys about the day I first found my dojo, unless you told them already?" she asked Splinter.
He nodded, and said, "My sons know."
She continued on, "Well, I found it was that day and I was a kid again. Everything went as it had when it really happened, but when I turned, after I was cut, I recognized the guy as the one who'd shot my with that thing in school.
Then, before anything else happened, I was the way I am now, but wearing this really long dress with a really low neckline, it kida reminded me of a night gown.
Anyway, I was standing in front of this huge person thing. He was totally black and around eight feet tall. He was just...big!
He reached down and touched my face with his...hand, I guess. I couldn't move, for some reason the swat it away. Then he ran the hand down my neck and rested it on my collar bone. Then it..it started to move the hand to the neckline of my dress, and suddenly I could move again, and I slapped his hand away. After I did that, he said in this horrible voice, ‘You will be mine!' His...his touch was colder than ice."
She looked down, her hair curtaining her face, and whipped the tears away with shaking hands. Ashamed of her lack of control. She felt Raph slip an arm back around her shoulders and give her a one armed hug. She took a shuddering breath and pulled herself together. She looked up and saw everyone looking at her. "Sorry about that," she said sheepishly.
"Hey, don't worry about it, babe," Raph said, gently.
Mikey rolled his eyes, "You've filled your apology quota for the day."
Don shot a wicked grin at Mikey, "‘Quota'? Mikey, are you getting into the advanced words now?"
Mike made a face at Don and continued eating his breakfast.
"ANYway," Leo said, shooting Mike and Don a Look, "what was the scream we heard?"
Di shrugged, "That I don't know. I was trying to get a grip on things, when I felt an incredible pull and almost as soon as it started, there was a searing pain, like I was having a body part cut off, or something."
"That I can explain, it's connected to that creature that you encountered in your dream, Di," Splinter spoke up.
They all looked at him, expectantly.
"First, though, I must get something to give to Di," he stood and went into his room.
The rest just sat and looked at each other, wondering what Splinter was up to.
Splinter returned with the blade that he had cut Di from the blood the evil one had. He gave it to her, and she, with a rather confused look on her face, took it.
They all looked at him with questions in their eyes.
Di said, "Uh...thanks, Splinter," not quite sure of why what just happened, happened.
She looked at the sword, and pulled it out of its sheath to examine the blade. It was curved like a katana, and had sharp edges on both sides. It also had a mix of Japanese characters and Celtic runes up the middle of the blade, between the sharp edges on both flat sides.
The hilt was a true work of art. Down at the end of it there were carvings of fire, earth, air, water and spirit, all in perfect balance. There were five jewels imbedded in the hilt, too. Jewels of a type she's never seed before. When she looked at one, she could see fire flickering, another and she could see the peace of a calm lake or sea. She looked into a third, and she could hear and feel the wind, the forth, bare face mountains, in all their majesty and beauty. Finally, the fifth, she could feel the spirits present, and hear far off thoughts.
"Wow," she whispered, "it feels like this is a part of me. Thank you again, Splinter."
She resheathed it and looked at the others with wonder in her eyes. Then she remembered that Splinter was about to explain what was up with the intense pain she was in last night.
Splinter smiled then sighed and started speaking. "There are some that believe that every thing that was once a part of you is always tied to you, and if someone gets ahold of it, they can control the person who it came from, using the right spells."
Di and Raph both narrowed their eyes, Splinter almost laughed. He thought, And Raph doesn't see how similar they are? Leo caught this, too, and shared a secret grin with Splinter.
"So...someone wants to get ahold of me, but already has a piece of me?" Di asked.
Splinter nodded.
Don spoke up, "What about the pain Di felt? And how is it connected to her dream?"
"One question at a time Donetello," Splinter chuckled, and Don blushed. Mikey chuckled and gave Don a bear hug.
Splinter grinned at Don and Mike, "To answer your questions, the pain that Di felt was me cutting Di from what was used to pull her."
After a few minuted of contemplative silence, Di asked, "What about my dream?"
"Whoever wants you is very powerful, I am certain that they went into your subconscious and tried to do something to you, Splinter replied.
Di shivered. Freaky, she thought.
Leo walked, stood behind Di, put his hand on her shoulders, and said, with determination in his voice, "We have to get this guy."
They all just sat there until Di looked back and up at Leo, tilting her head back.
"Umm, Leo, one question," she said.
"Yeah?" he asked, looking into her upside-down eyes.
"How?" she inquired.
"Huh? How what?" Leo looked at her, confused.
She turned her body around in her char, so she could look at him without giving herself neck strain.
"How well we get this guy when we don't even know who he is? Or even what he wants with me?" Di bowed her head in frustration, and muttered, "I gotta think."
She stood, only to feel Raph holding her wrist, gently trying to tug her back down.
She looked at him with deeply toubled eyes.
Raph let her go, feeling her pain, knowing she had to be alone for a little while.
She strapped her newly acquired blade on and was gone as silently and suddenly as a ghost.
Man, Di though as she moved silently through the sewers, keeping to the shadows, this is SO unbelievably weird. Why the hell does this guy want me? She shivered, remembering the feel of that man-thing touching her.
Suddenly she realized she was running, so she purposely slowed down to a walk. As she was walking, she wondered how she knew these sewers so well. She'd been there for only a day and a half, and for that first half-day, she was out cold for a while, but she still felt like she knew this subterranean system better than her own neighborhood. And she doubted the familiarity was from the cartoons and comics she'd seen.
She stepped out of the sewers and into the rain, making sure that no one was watching her.
Oh, god, I gotta figure this out.
She hunched down into the long rain coat that April had brought her that first day, making herself inconspicuous. She turned into the park that yesterday's fight had been in and found a secluded spot and settled down to do some serious thinking.
"Now, why would this thing want me? It ain't exactly like I'm anything special," she muttered.
"I think yer pretty damned special," a soft, familiar voice said, making her look up with startled eyes. She looked up into Raph's dark eyes. She impulsively stood and wrapped her arms around him, pulling him close in a loving hug.
A little startled, he put his arms around her.
"What's this for?" he whispered into her ear.
"I dunno, I guess it's a thank you for everything you've done for me," she answered.
He rested his head on hers, and they stood there, holding each other and getting wet in the rain, for a few more minutes. Raph pulled back and looked at Di, "You figure anything out yet?
She stepped back, ran her fingers through her wet hair and sighed in frustration. "I just can't figure it out. ARG!" She threw her hands up. "WHY am I so important to this loser?"
Raph suddenly saw movement behind Di, and saw her jerk forward before hearing the sound of a gun firing. He caught her and saw a dart with a string attached sticking out of her back. He growled in rage when he saw the figures surrounding them, and he almost completely lost it when the string attached to the dart was pulled and the needle from the dart was broken off inside of her.
Holding Di, who was unconscious and limp, close in one arm and drawing a sai with his free hand, he tried to fight the figures off. The few who were dumb enough to get within the reach of the sai, were quickly despatched of.
One guy tried to grab Di from behind, and Raph swung both himself and DI around, stabbing deep into him, killing him. Abruptly, Di was pulled away while Raph was dealing with two jerks attacking him. He howled with anger and guilt as the attackers disappeared into the rain.
George was happy. He FINALLY had the girl that the master wanted. At the moment, he was carrying her limp body across his shoulders.
She weighs hardly anything, he thought, how the hell was she able to defeat their forces so easily? Though she didn't weigh that much, she did have some weight to her. He was surprised when, with a breeze, it was gone.
George looked around in fury.
"WHERE IS SHE?!?!?" he shouted, "THE MASTER WANTS HE FOUND!"
The others went scurrying around, looking for her and fearing the beating they would get when they returned without her.
When Di came to, she was on some idiot's shoulders. She snuck her hand to the hilt of her sword. Her fingers brushed up against the stone for wind. She felt as if she'd somehow turning into the wind, and she was lying in an alley in the blink of an eye.
She stayed there, in the cover of shadows, watching as George and his flunkies went searching for her, after George had issued the order. Her hand was still of the hilt of her blade, and her fingers were touching another stone.
George is such an imbecile, she almost jumped as the foreign though leapt into her head.
What the hell..? she asked herself silently.
The group apparently gave up their search and left.
After she was sure they were gone, she tried standing.
Oh, man. Big mistake, she thought as the pain and dizziness swept over her. She looked around for a man howl.
The sewers...gotta get ta the sewers...
Raph stormed into the lair.
Leo and Splinter looked up from their chess game as did Mike from his comic book. Donny came in from his computer upon hearing Raph's entrance.
"What's up, dud?" Mikey asked, seeing the look on Raph's face.
"They got ‘er!" Raph practically shouted, "They got Di!"
Splinter stood and put a soothing hand on his agitated son's arm.
"Who has her?" he asked.
"The...the mooks who wanted her!" Raph responded impatiently, "We gotta find her!"
"‘Ave ta find who?" a weary voice asked from behind Raph, slurring the words together. Raph whirled around and say Di, swaying in the door way.
"Di!" Raph exclaimed in surprise, joy and relief.
"Uh huh...da's me..." she muttered, before giving into the drug and collapsing into Raph's arms.
